I’ve always liked competitions. Ever since I was a young adult. I have been addicted to Take 5 and That’s Life since they came out, partly due to the lure of possibly winning a new car every week.

I would enter randomly on and off then get sidetracked with kids.

It was last year while pregnant I started entering again. Facebook competitions were everywhere. Like a page, go into the draw.

Days before I gave birth I got an email from one of my favourite blogs – I had won a pram – a Mama and Papa Armadillo from

I was hooked.

The next big win came in October last year. I was sitting at home and my email pinged. I had won a brand new Thermomix plus $150 cash.

There had been over 50,000 entries.

Since then the prizes have rolled in. $3000 Port Douglas holiday, a $3000 Barbie recording package, $2000 worth of white goods, movie premiere tickets and more movie passes than I can use. Toys, books, DVDs, the total would be at a guess close to $15,000 in prizes.

I often get asked how I win. And the answer is enter. You cannot win if you don’t enter.

My top tips for you are:

The $44 membership fee is well worth it. Lottos lists every competition available.

Read blogs. Blogs often have giveaways. My favourites are

Stuff Mums Like

All do regular giveaways.

My other suggestion is buy kids magazines. We regularly win from Total Girl, Kzone, Dmag and Mania.

Join Mouth of Mums – – regular competitions. – monthly competitions for kids.

And most of all enter enter enter and don’t give up!

its great when prizes arrive that you had forgotten you had entered, i’ve been entering comps for years, and have not had to buy christmas or birthday presents for 5 yrs now, ive won over 2500 dvds including box sets, tickets to concerts, books, i could fill a wall with all the cookbooks ive won, theres been handbags shoes, food, lots of makeup, rings, only one holiday, i found that those are the prizes most people enter so i stick with the lesser ones, i remember my first prize was a beach set of clothes for a teddy bear. yes you are right though if your not in it you carnt win it, all i can say is have fun doing them, and sit back and wait theres bound to be someting come you way, the best site i found is they are all free to enter, at the end of each year what i have left over is donated to the cfa and they hand them out to people, it may only be febuary but so far i have won a complete dremel drill set, 2 more cook books 2 novels, 12 bottles of coconut water, and waiting of 3 more prizes to arrive
    happy comping everyone

Wow! What a haul! Great advice too, there’s nothing better than the buzz of the delivery man arriving, and I agree unadvised is so much better! I hope you have many more wins this year 🙂

Competitions are my passion, and they are so much easier to do now online than they were when I had 4 little kids at home 30 years ago – Read a magazine or go to the supermarket, find the entry form, fill it in, post it off…
I have had lots of little wins and I am content with that, as it keeps the momentum going and offers encouragement to keep entering. My friends all say they never win anything, and I have to point out that is because they don’t enter! Yes it takes time, but I spend my evenings doing it instead of watching TV.
I know I need to take a bit of time out when I start dreaming in 25 words or less.
    Happy comping everyone.

I agree with you on little wins, anything excites me, I especially love toys and books having so many kids! I’ve been lucky with my bigger wins but get just as excited with a new toy for the kids. Good luck this year!

You should write a guide on this. I’d be considered a buyer right away.
