Those who are regular followers of my blog will know almost every post comes with a giveaway attached. It is very rare I will post without. And it is ever rarer that I would ask any of my followers to give anything. This time I am, and it is for something I feel very strongly about – giving a helping hand to those less fortunate than most, and ensuring people who need it get food on the table and in their cupboards at one of the most financially stressful times of the year – Christmas time.
This year, Wesley Mission Victoria’s goal is to collect over 30 tonnes of non-perishable goods for distribution throughout their crisis centres via their Food For Families Appeal. All donations go directly to people in need, and every donation will make a real difference. Give a little and change a lot by collecting food and household essentials for Melbourne’s most vulnerable families. These donations will be critical to ensuring that families experiencing tough times can put food on the table this Christmas and throughout 2016. Donations of non-perishable items, toiletries and household essentials are being sought – non-perishable items cover everything in the supermarket outside of the fresh and frozen food aisle.
You can register to receive a donation box for your workplace, school or community group. Your participant pack, including box/es is delivered in November and collected by a Wesley volunteer before Christmas. Did you know that you can create nourishing tasty meals from non-perishable food items alone? Items that are most popular with families that visit the Wesley pantry include ready to eat meals, pasta/noodles and sauces, cereal, baby food and UHT milk. A full list of items is available on the website.
Visit www.wesley.org·au for more information on how you can get involved. If you prefer (or if you are outside Victoria – Wesley Mission is a National charity) you can donate via the website. Monetary donations are used to purchase fresh and frozen foods, including fruit and vegetables, to supplement the donated non-perishable food supplies.
Remember, no donation is too small.
